Two weeks before race day there is a Captains' meeting at Portland Riverside Marina at 37 Riverview Street, Portland, CT. Attendance Is Mandatory for all raft Captains !!! Crew members are also encouraged to attend but their attendance is optional. All raft Captains must attend this meeting to register their raft and their crew. Anyone registering a kayak or a canoe must also attend this meeting. This day marks the registration deadline for the event. No late entries will be accepted after this date. It is imperative that all participants submit their entry forms & crew member list on this day. All Captains must also sign a Release and Hold Harmless Agreement on behalf of his/her crew & entry. The same goes for kayak & canoe entries. A Notary Public will attend the meeting to certify signatures on registration forms, so bring two forms of identification to this meeting. It cannot be over emphasized that all entries must be received by July 12, 2008.
The Captains’ meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will be used to explain specific details of the event. The items to be covered will include but not be limited to: Safety Requirements & Equipment, Race Rules, Inspection, Launching Procedures, Parking Arrangements, Towing to the Mooring Areas, The Starting Location & Cannon, Racecourse Description, Finish Line Location, Navigation, Support Boats, Anticipated Race Duration, Competition Classes, Awards, Amenities at the Finish Area, Day’s end, and any last minute developments and/or instructions. The race committee will also clarify any concerns and respond to comments from the audience.
Entry fees are $16 per crew member, with a minimum of 3 people per raft. Event T-shirts, beverage Koozies, Photo CDs, and other items will also be on sale. The race committee will also hand out additional rafting information and materials. For the safety of all participants, guests, spectators, and marina patrons PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED at the Captains’ meeting or the Raft Race.
